Face-To-Face Communication Is Better Essays

When does an interaction need to be face to face?

If you need to let a teacher know that you won’t be in class on a certain day because you’re sick, then it is probably okay just sending them an email. The same goes for asking a question about homework or sending a document (although obviously each interaction depends upon the circumstances and your prior history with said teacher).

There are certain interactions, however, that should always be held in person. When it comes to more serious matters like asking for a letter of recommendation, disputing a grade on a certain assignment, or even working out a conflict with a teacher, it is important to show your teacher respect by coming to speak with them face-to-face. When you asking for a letter of rec, for example, you are asking your teacher for a huge favor—for more tips and advice on this subject, take a look at this blog post: Getting the Best Recommendation Letter.

Discussing something like a grade that you don’t believe you deserve is another case in which you should definitely talk to your teacher in person. In cases like this, which so often result from a one-way or two-way misunderstanding, is it really important to be able to interpret the body language and nonverbal cues of your teacher. You don’t want to come off as insincere, sarcastic, snarky, or rude, especially if you plan on arguing that you deserved a higher grade than the one you actually received.

How do face to face communications help in the long run?

Overall, in choosing to communicate face to face as opposed to with email or text, your interlocutors are more likely to perceive you as professional. You will also build upon important communications skills that will remain relevant to you throughout your life, especially when you enter the workplace. Relying less on email will also give you more practice with face-to-face interaction and will ultimately make you less nervous to directly communicate going forward—after all, you will have had more experience!

Conclusion

Though email might seem like the best way to go for situations that are seemingly intimidating, there are some cases in which you should almost always talk to your teachers, supervisors, bosses, or other authority figures in person. Unnecessary miscommunications can often arise as a result of written communication, and being able to see someone’s body language and nonverbal cues can help you avoid this. Also, it is considered more courteous to talk to people in person when possible, and you will likely gain respect from doing so as well as valuable communications skills.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Face-to-face communication is better than other types of communication, such as letters, e-mail, or telephone calls.

People at any age need to communicate with other people. Methods for communicating have changed greatly in recent years. In the past most communications were face-to-face, while nowadays people use different ways to communicate each other. From my experience, I claim that modern ways of communication such as e-mails and telephone calls are much better than the way ancient people used to employ. They are cheaper, faster and more reliable.

First, modern communication methods are cheaper and easier. When you want to talk to your friend who lives in another country or you want to meet a person and talk about your business, what you need is a computer which is very cheap and very common and you can work with easily. On the other hand, if you prefer to have a face-to-face conversation, you have to travel to a place where he lives. In this way, you have to pay a large amount of money. Besides, you must take a long trip. Thus, new types of communication are cheaper and easier than face-to-face method.

Second, new ways for communication are faster. Traveling to another city or country would take several hours or even days. You have to cancel all of your plans just for a face-to-face conversation. In contrast, using new ways of communication you can meet every person in every part of the world in just a few seconds. As a result, you are able to save your time and allocate it for other important duties. Therefore, new types of communicating methods are faster than face-to-face meetings.

Finally, modern types of communication are more reliable. Suppose that you decide to travel to see your friend. But, when you arrive you find that he is not in his place. Or you take a trip to meet a business counselor without knowing that he is not free to have a meeting with you. In fact, you have wasted your time and money, without any useful results. On the other hand, you can meet your friend at any time that he is at home or he is free. Thus, new methods for communication are much better than face-to-face conversation in terms of reliability.

To sum up, I disagree that face-to-face conversation is better than modern tools that we use for communication. Modern types of communication are cheaper, easier, faster and more reliable. That’s why these days most people prefer to employ these new ways for their communications.

Hi Bjeddi, I think this is one of your best essays. The whole thing sounded really natural, with very few errors. Your intro did not flow that well, with short, choppy sentences, but your body paragraphs were better in this respect. Your vocabulary is a bit basic, but you have used almost all of your words correctly. You still have some room for improvement, but I would rate this a 4.5 out of 5.

People at any age need to communicate with other people.{it would be nice not to repeat "people" here} Methods for communicating have changed greatly in recent years. From my experience, I claim that modern ways of communication such as e-mails and telephone calls are much better than the way[s ] ancient people used to employ[, as] They are cheaper, faster and more reliable. {this intro is pretty choppy}

First, modern communication methods are cheaper and easier. When you want to talk to your friend who lives in another country or you want to meet a person and talk about your business, what you need is a computer[,] which is very cheap and very common and you can work with easily. {well, more specifically you need a video conferencing application like Skype} On the other hand, if you prefer to have a face-to-face conversation, you have to travel to [the] place where he lives. In this way, {this sounds a bit off, as "in this way" usually introduces a positive solution or result} you have to pay a large amount of money. Besides, you must take a long trip. Thus, new types of communication are cheaper and easier than [the] face-to-face method. {you did better with your transition words here :) }

Finally, modern types of communication are more reliable. Suppose that you decide to travel to see your friend[, b]ut, {avoid beginning sentences with "but"} when you arrive you find that he is not in his place.{"in his place" sounds a bit odd, like "putting someone in his place"} Or you take a trip to meet a business counselor{"counselor" sounds a bit odd, maybe you mean "mentor", but "associate" is better here I think} without knowing that he is not free to have a meeting with you. In fact, you have wasted your time and money, without any useful results. On the other hand, you can meet your friend at any time that he is at home or he is free. Thus, new methods for communication are much better than face-to-face conversation in terms of reliability.

That’s{avoid contractions} why these days most people prefer to employ these new ways for their communications.
