Therefore, it can be determined that philanthropist, actress, television producer and talk show host Oprah Winfrey has a personality that was formed through experiences from her childhood, environmental, evolutionary and biological factors. Oprah Winfrey stated “the whole point of being alive is to evolve into the complete person you were intended to be” (Winfrey, 2011). Oprah Winfrey was born January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi to mother Vernita and father Veron who was a barber and businessman. Oprah lived in a small farming area and endured a rocky childhood where she encountered sexual abuse by several male relatives and associates of her mother. Due to the sexual abuse, Oprah eventually moved to Nashville, Tennessee with her father. Oprah attended Tennessee State University in 1971 and started working in radio and television in Nashville. In 1976, Oprah moved to Baltimore and hosted “People are talking” for eight years where her career began to excel. It was during this time that she began her own morning show in Chicago called “A.M. Oprah Winfrey is a household name, not only in America but throughout the world. She has graced Americans’ televisions for the over twenty-five years. Oprah has impacted many lives across the globe, whether it be first hand or through her powerful words of wisdom and encouragement. Many know of Oprah as we see her today; however, they don’t have knowledge of her past and the circumstances that shaped and molded her into the woman that we all know today. Oprah Winfrey did not always have the things she possesses today, but it was the determination and drive that brought her this far. Her father was a religious man and expected a lot of Oprah. He was very strict and offered Oprah the structure she needed in her life. He expected her to earn the highest grades, attend church, and set an example of a model student for those younger than her. Oprah attended East Nashville High School, this is where she flourished. Oprah was in a number of clubs. She was in the drama club, forensics club, honor society, and a member of the student council. High School is where Oprah began to develop the personality that we all know and love today.
